A little love goes a long way

A little love goes a long way

I started my consulting firm, Chidimma Ozor Consulting in 2018, about four years ago. I was so excited to get started officially with this work that I designed this website in 12 hours. Today I decided to update my website and I stumbled on this 2014 picture of Devonte “Hart”, son of Sherry Davis, who was hugging Portland police officer Sgt Barnum, who asked, “Can I get one of those?” which was a free hug. Devonte regularly held up a homemade poster board with ‘FREE HUGS’ on it.

Why My Professional (and Personal) Touchstones Are Empathy, Compassion, and Understanding

Why My Professional (and Personal) Touchstones Are Empathy, Compassion, and Understanding

During my Masters of Social Work (MSW) program I took a field education seminar course for an hour, once a week. During one of our sessions we were asked about our professional touchstones or guideposts. I immediately thought of mine - empathy, compassion, and understanding. They have served me as a filter, both professionally and personally.

Our Principal, Chidimma Ozor, Participates in Share the Mic Now: Detroit

We are so thrilled that our principal, Chidimma Ozor, was invited to participate in the Share the Mic Now: Detroit event. The national campaign of the same name, #ShareTheMicNow states, “…when the world listens to women, it listens to white women.

Let that sink in.

Many campaign posts go on to say, “For too long, Black women's voices have gone unheard, even though they've been using their voices loudly for centuries to enact change. Today, more than ever, it is NECESSARY that we create a unifying action to center Black women's lives, stories and calls to action. We need to listen to Black women."

The campaign comes amid worldwide protests over racial injustice, prompted by the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody on Monday, May 25, 2020.

Cities across the country have started to have these conversations between Black women and white women and Chidimma was selected to be a participant. She had a conversation with Sarah Szurpicki. Their conversation will be live on Tuesday, August 25, 2020.
